PORTUGAL & THE AZORES

  • Day 1: Canada - Lisbon (Portugal)Flight with a good itinerary.
  • Day 2: LisbonArrival at the airport in Lisbon. You will be greeted by our local representatives after exiting the customs and transfered to your hotel in Lisbon. The rest of the day is free for you to start your exploration of Portugal's capital city.
  • Day 3: Lisbon – Sintra – Cascais – Estoril – Lisbon

    Breakfast at the hotel. Driving along the road surrounded by ancient aristocratic estates and picturesque villages, you will reach Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of the European continent, and the fabulous city of Sintra, a medieval royal residence that became a favourite vacation spot for the aristocracy in the 18th century. You will see from afar the romantic Pena palace, a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, known for its elaborate and ornate architecture, which features a mix of Gothic, Renaissance, and Manueline styles. Free time for lunch in Sintra. In the afternoon, you will stop at the legendary Devil's Mouth cave and Guincho Beach before taking a stroll in the fishing town of Cascais. On your way back to Lisbon, you will visit Estoril, a spa town where several noble families lived during World War II, fleeing the persecution of the Nazis. Evening free in Lisbon. (Breakfast) 

  • Day 4: Lisbon 

    Following breakfast, half-day guided city tour of Lisbon. In a maze of sloping alleys and serpentine staircases, life in the old town of Lisbon is rhythmed by the sound of colorful streetcars, the favorite means of transportation among locals. After touring the historic Alfama district, you will head toward Belém where you will visit Jerónimos Monastery, a resting place for numerous historic Portuguese characters. You will also visit the famous Tower of Belém, erected in the 16th century to control the entrance of the city from the sea, and the Monument of the Discoveries, a memorial to the pioneering Portuguese navigators. After lunch time, you will have the rest of the day at leisure to enjoy this beautiful city, the coastal capital of Portugal known for it's rich history. (Breakfast)

  • Day 5: Lisbon – Óbidos – Alcobaça – Nazaré – Batalha – Porto

    Departure from Lisbon to Óbidos, a town perfect for romantic getaways close to the capital with its well-preserved castle and handicraft shops within walls, a maze of alleys, and white houses that are a delight to stroll amongst. Then you will reach Alcobaça, where you will see the Monastery of Alcobaça. This monastery is the oldest in the area, where the tombs of the most famous lovers of Portugal are located. Around noon, you will reach Nazaré, with its colorful fishing traditions and long half-moon shaped beach, where you can witness the biggest beach-breaking waves in the world. Following lunch (not included) you will head to the Monastery of Batalha, one of the best and original examples of Late Flamboyant Gothic architecture in Portugal, built in the 14th century. Finish this amazing tour of Lisbon, then transfer to your hotel in Porto for a free evening. (Breakfast)

  • Day 6: Porto

    After breakfast, around 9, you will meet your guide for a half day guided city tour. In the words of many visitors, this city has something mystical that is hard to describe and which varies according to the place, time of day and light.

    Starting in the historic centre, your guide will show you the Cathedral where your will get a panoramic view of the city, the River Douro, its bridges, and cascading houses. Then you will get to see the most picturesque corners of the Ribeira district, filled with tradition and culture, before heading for a wine tasting in one of Porto's wine cellars. Passing the Stock Exchange building and the Rua das Flores, you will reach São Bento train station, with its atrium lined with tile (azulejos) panels depicting scenes of the history of Portugal. The tour will end at the Four Lions fountain, facing the university, which is surrounded by charming churches, some covered in azulejos, and one of the world’s most beautiful bookstores built in 1881, Livraria Lello. Lunch free and rest of the afternoon at leisure to continue your exploration. (Breakfast)

  • Day 7: Porto – Douro Valley – Porto

    Departing from Porto, where the river flows into the sea and where the Douro wines also end up, you will discover the spectacular beauty of both the natural and built landscape, and the industrial heritage associated with the Porto industry, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Douro Vinhateiro is a microclimate where olives, almonds and grapes all grow easily. You will enjoy a one-hour traditional rabelo boat tour, on a breath-taking stretch of the Douro River. You will then enjoy a wine tasting and a fantastic lunch in a winery before heading back to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure in Porto. (Breakfast-Lunch)

  • Day 8: Porto - Fatima - Tomar - Lisbon

    Following breakfast, you will drive southward. You will arrive to Fatima, a town that became a place of worship for believers after the Mother of God appeared to three shepherdesses in 1917. Nowadays, Fatima is a must-visit destination, more than 5 million pilgrims from different countries come to visit it every year. Then you will take the direction of Tomar, a city steeped in history and the former residence of the Templars. In Tomar, you will visit the Convent of Christ, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can immerse yourself in the grace of the Manueline style with its architectural details and historical richness reflecting the golden age period.

    Free time for lunch and rest of the day at leisure to continue your exploration of Lisbon at your own pace. (Breakfast)

  • Day 9: Lisbon - Ponta DelgadaAfter breakfast, greeting in the lobby of your hotel by our local representatives and transfer from the hotel to the airport for your flight towards Ponta Delgada. (Breakfast)
    Upon arrival at the airport in Ponta Delgada, transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to start your exploration of São Miguel, the biggest island of the volcanic archipelago of the Azores. Sao Miguel is also known as the ‘Green Island’ thanks to its diverse scenery. Overnight at your hotel in Ponta Delgada.  
  • Day 10: Ponta Delgada & Sete Cidades

    Following breakfast at your hotel, you will start the day with a visit to a pineapple plantation and a tasting of its liquor. You will then continue towards Pico do Carvão, where you will see the central part of the island and simultaneously see the north and south coasts of São Miguel. Upon reaching the parish of Sete Cidades, you will stop on the edge of Lagoa das Sete Cidades where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the blue lagoon. On the way up to the Vista do Rei viewpoint, you will admire Lagoa de Santiago, known for its peacefulness. You will then finally reach the viewpoint, where you will have a different perspective on the volcanic crater of Sete Cidades. You will then return to your hotel. Overnight at your hotel in Ponta Delgada. (Breakfast)

  • Day 11: Ponta DelgadaBreakfast at the hotel. Day at leisure in the heart of Ponta Delgada. Ponta Delgada, the main city of the island of Sao Miguel, is known for its charming cobblestone streets, old architecture, colourful houses and coffee shops. You can stroll the Avenida Infante Dom Henrique, the harbour front promenade and discover the historical quarter, before heading to the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Esperança, one of the most visited places in Ponta Delgada.On the same square, you can visit a little old gem: The church of Igreja de Sao José. During this day, you can also discover Portas da Cidade, the Largo da Matriz, the museum of Carlos Machado and Sao Sebastiao parish church. Overnight at your hotel in Ponta Delgada. (Breakfast)
  • Day 12: Ponta DelgadaBreakfast at the hotel. Day at leisure to continue your exploration of Ponta Delgada. You can go discover the Gruta do Carvao, a geological formation of volcanic origin with a local guide, or opt for one of the optional tours available at the hotel desk. Overnight at your hotel in Ponta Delgada. (Breakfast)
  • Day 13: Ponta Delgada - CanadaAfter breakfast at the hotel, enjoy some free time to wander around Ponta Delgada before the transfer to the airport for your flight home. (Breakfast)-End of services-

The hotels are centrally located which means that whether you walk or use local transportation, you will be able to reach the city within 20 minutes.

In Porto, you can reach the city centre within 30 min by public transportation or 15 min by taxi.

Are tips included?

Yes , all prices generally include taxes and tips. Tipping the guides, drivers, hotel and restaurant staff is always appreciated and remains at your discretion.

What is the average cost of a meal?

All your breakfasts are included at the hotels. It is buffet style breakfasts with many options. For the other meals, the average cost is €15.

Is it possible to add extra nights?

Yes, you may add extra nights to your package. We can add nights in Lisbon before and/or after the tour and in Ponta Delgada. Simply make the request with your reservation agent who will change your flights accordingly. We strongly recommend including the same hotel as we will be able to reschedule your transfers. The price will be confirmed by your agent depending on availability.
